Ferrari F50 Red 1/24 by Bburago 26010

Unimpressive model of a universe-beating classic
I am THRILLED that it’s a F50. I’d have preferred a F40 more, and I suppose I could find a F40 diecast 1:24 or 1:18 model somewhere, but… it’s a F50. Enough said.Now for the not-so-great part.I don’t know that this is the best price for this model, but there are a few issues.- The diecast bodywork is sort of wavy. The hood, roof and boot lid are pretty smooth, meaning, the top side of the car. The side panels are a bit lumpy, wavy. The paint is glossy and fine; the cast itself is not. The windshield is also wavy and rippled. This is a problem with the manufacturing, not the Ferrari.- The interior lacks detail, but more importantly, all of the plastic molding is sort of wavy and sloppy. Nothing is precise or detailed. As you know, the F40/F50 interior is extremely spartan. But that makes it all the worse. They had very little to replicate in this replica, and they seemed to have done a very lazy, sloppy job molding the little plastic bits inside, so much so that it’s not worth looking inside.- There is no steering.- There is no detail under the car (suspension, exhaust, chassis), which is forgiven because that’s true, the F50 has a full-length undercarriage cover. However, that’s just another thing that simply didn’t need to bother with. They could have put a few more minutes of effort into the rest of the replica. They didn’t.The top of the rear door shell does not align with the B-pillar.Even for a Burago model, this one is surprisingly rudimentary. This level of detail would be more appropriate for a 1:64 model, where the defects and sloppy casting/molding is hard to see. Not a 1:24.I collect a LOT of classic car, supercar and luxury car models, and I have probably two dozen Burago models. So I’m comparing this to a considerable baseline.This just isn’t the same standard of quality or detail as standard Burago. If I had been in quality control, I’d have spent about 30 seconds looking around it and playing with it and said, “do it again”.So, you can have a F50 replica. There are probably few more pre-built die-cast F50 models than there are F50s. Which is especially exciting, because the F50 doesn’t have metal body panels. They’re carbon fiber. Bottom of the page, this replica should have been done better. Burago does much, much better models of almost everything else.When I worked on old luxury cars, we’d say, “it’s a perfect 20/20”. It looks perfect from 20 feet away, going at 20mph.
